Why does the same product show up as multiple SKUs in my Amazon account?
Duplicate SKUs happen because Amazon identifies the product by ASIN but your account tracks offers by SKU — relist the same product with a new SKU name and you've created an alias, not a new product. The units, sales history, and ad data split across aliases, making one healthy product look like several weak ones. Amazon has no "merge SKUs" button; the fix is consolidating your view and future stock, not deleting history.

Relisting with a new name
Deleting an old listing and recreating it as "SLING-2025" instead of the original SKU makes a second offer on the same ASIN. Both live forever in reports.
Feeds and tools generating their own SKUs
Bulk uploads, ERPs, and some listing tools mint their own SKU patterns — one physical product accumulates aliases with each system change.
FBA + FBM twins
Running both fulfilment methods requires separate SKUs on the same ASIN — legitimate, but it still splits reporting unless your tooling regroups by product.
How to check it yourself
Map your duplicates:

Export Manage Inventory and sort by ASIN — repeated ASINs across rows are your alias groups.

For each group, decide the primary SKU (usually the one holding stock) and stop sending stock to the others.

Don't delete old aliased SKUs with FBA history — deletion strands any remaining units and orphans history.
What splitting costs
Three aliases each showing "4 old units" hides one product with 12 units crossing into long-term storage fees. Ads judged per-SKU can kill a "weak" alias while the product overall converts fine. Fragmented data causes wrong decisions more than direct fees.

No — SKUs are permanent identifiers in your account. You can consolidate stock into one going forward and let the others empty out, but the merge happens in your management view, not in Amazon's ledger.
